IT hardware in today’s data centers has dramatically increased power, cooling and cable management requirements in the physical layer. Increased back pressure from trapped heat leads to hotter racks, which in turn slow down system performance. As thermal thresholds are approached, there is an increased potential for equipment failure. On the rack level, power and cable management require specific places in the rack so they do not trap exhaust air which causes an increase in back pressure.
As with server racks, network racks need this same efficiency. By using the structured cabling approach, we provide dedicated, organized pathways for cable bundles that support proper bend radiuses and simplify cable management additions, moves or removal over the lifetime of the installation. Proper structured cabling management reduces equipment requirements, power consumption and cooling costs – while reducing the risk of equipment failure.
